Advanced Water Endorsement - White Water Open Canoe
Course Description
This course is designed for coaches who wish to plan, deliver, and review progressive coaching sessions in the advanced white water environment in open canoe. Advanced white water is defined as grade 3 rivers.

Training
The training course is run over two days and will help you apply your skills developed through previous qualifications to coach paddlers in advanced white water situations. The course will include:
Coaching technical skills (e.g. 4 and 5 Star Skills)
Developing tactics for open canoe and the white water environment
Developing physiological elements and psychological skills
Training Prerequisites
- Stamped Candidate Registration (CR) form (bring on the course).
- Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport (bring original certificate).
- 5 Star Leader Open Canoe Award (bring original certificate).
- Moderate Water Endorsement Open Canoe (bring original certificate).
- 16 hour first aid award (bring original certificate).
- 18 years old.
- Minimum 20 logged coaching hours on grade 2, after achieving MWE.
- Minimum 20 leading hours on grade 3, after achieving 5 Star.
Assessment
The assessment is a one day course, however the course introduction and welcome will happen the evening before the assessment day.
You will be assessed working with a ‘real’ group of paddlers who are around 4 Star Open Canoe standard. You are expected to show good performance that provides suitable progression and coaching to the needs of the learners. Personal paddling, safety management, and leadership skills will be assessed alongside coaching performance. Coaching will be assessed at a similar standard to that expected at Level 2, although it will now applied in a more dynamic and changing environment.

- 5 Star Leader Open Canoe Award (bring original certificate).
- Moderate Water Endorsement Open Canoe (bring original certificate).
- 16 hour first aid award (bring original certificate).
- Advanced Water Endorsement White Water Open Canoe Training completed.
- Assessment Portfolio completed (bring on the course).
- Minimum 15 days coaching on grade 3 rivers after AWE training (must include six linked progressive coaching sessions with evidence of session plans and reviews, and activity in a minimum of 3 different geographical areas).
